Nikki & Katie - Kelham Island Museum

Posted on 12th June 2026 by Mark Tierney

From the minute I arrived, Nikki and Katie’s wedding at Kelham Island Museum had exactly the right feel — relaxed, funny, full of personality, and packed with Sheffield character. Add in two very important guests stealing plenty of attention, Buster and Millie, and you had a day that could only really belong to them.

Kelham Island is always a brilliant place to shoot. Red brick, steel, old machinery, fairy lights, and that proper industrial Sheffield backdrop. It has bags of atmosphere without ever feeling too polished, which suited Nikki and Katie perfectly.

And then came the dogs. Buster and Millie were properly part of the day, not just brought along for a quick photo. They walked in, greeted everyone, caused a few smiles, and generally made sure the day had that extra bit of chaos that only dogs can bring. The aisle walk was brilliant — guests on both sides, everyone laughing, and the dogs right in the middle of it all.

After the ceremony, we made the most of the museum for portraits. You really can’t beat Kelham for that. The Bessemer Converter, the brickwork, the machinery, and of course the “Made in Sheffield” neon sign all made perfect backdrops. Nikki and Katie were great together — no awkward posing, just laughing, chatting, and dancing!

The reception had a lovely warm feel, with fairy lights, long tables, red chairs, drinks flowing, and plenty of great food from PJ Taste. There were speeches, big laughs, and one cracking moment with Nikki stood on a chair, microphone in hand, absolutely owning the room.

Later on, the cake cutting brought more drama, more laughter, and a very enthusiastic crowd gathered around. Then came the silent disco. Now, I’ve shot over 400 weddings, and this was the first one I’ve photographed with a silent disco — and honestly, it definitely worked. Everyone loved it. Headphones on, guests singing, dancing, laughing, and fully going for it. It turned the evening into proper happy chaos.

Nikki and Katie’s wedding was full of personality from start to finish. A proper Sheffield wedding at one of the city’s best venues, with great people, loads of laughter, and Buster and Millie making sure nobody forgot who the real stars were.

And as for the silent disco? Let’s just say Nikki and Katie had the kind of energy that suggested they could have kept going all night!
