I'd been looking forward to photographing my first wedding at The Victoria in Sheffield, and it certainly didn't disappoint. Set inside a beautifully restored Victorian chapel, it's full of character, with exposed brickwork, huge windows and fantastic natural light that makes it a brilliant venue for relaxed wedding photography.
From the start of the day, Isabel and Spencer created a laid-back atmosphere that suited the venue perfectly. Before the ceremony, two flower girls made their way down the aisle, and during the vows there was a lovely moment when the young ring bearer looked up at the couple with the biggest smile on his face as they exchanged rings. It's one of those genuine moments that you simply can't stage.
After drinks in the courtyard, we headed out into Kelham Island for some portraits. Isabel and Spencer were keen to include Sheffield's industrial character, so we wandered around Ball Street Bridge, the historic Alfred Beckett & Sons building and some of the surrounding streets. We also stopped beneath one of Sheffield artist Phlegm's incredible murals, which created one of my favourite images from the whole day.
Although it was my first time photographing a wedding at Victoria, it certainly won't be my last. The venue has such a relaxed feel, and with Kelham Island's industrial architecture just a few minutes' walk away, there's no shortage of fantastic locations for portraits.
If you're planning a wedding at Victoria, Sheffield, and you're looking for natural, relaxed wedding photography that tells the story of your day, I'd love to hear from you.
